This evening FlexWiki took the next step in its life and has been made available at SourceForge.net under the Common Public License. With this step, the developer community will have the latest source (including all the WikiTalk features), better access, better tools, and a better legal environment. The FlexWiki developer community has kinda stalled out a bit over the past few months as I’ve worked to get FlexWiki to this point. Now we can really get going again! As I was thinking about what I’d write in the blog entry, I found myself enumerating questions that I thought people would have.

Flexwiki is the software we used for Channel 9’s Wiki implementation and something I’ve used to document a number of projects inside Microsoft. Its really cool to see another Microsoft project up on SourceForge under a the Common Public License.

Congratulations to the folks who planted the seed here, hopefully lots of good comes from this.

    Long live the wiki!

  • Google Copernicus OfficeFound this on Slashdot.org tonight. Google is hiring for their Copernicus Research Station. To get to the many pages that describe the positions you just go to Google search, type Google Jobs and select I’m feeling lucky.

    Cute.

  • I was bummed when the XM PCR was taken off the market. I wanted to use it to broadcast XM Radio throughout my home over my network. I had no desire to break the law and rip music with the recording software that caused its early demise. I just wanted a way to broadcast tunes throughout my home and control it through my computer.

Today XM announced that they will ship XM Radio Online and because I already subscribe to their Satellite service I can join in the phone $3.99. I’ll buy that for sure. Now I can listen to XM Radio at work too and hopefully I can figure out a way to stream through my home network. The nice thing about the new service is that it will allow folks to try XM content before buying hardware, that’s cool.

This is good, when I have more details I’ll let you know.

  • THINK!I’m spending the weekend up in Sebastopol, California for a private event. Driving up from San Francisco this afternoon I stumbled across the Glenn Beck radio program. Glenn was talking about how he dreamt for the day that 9/10 would return. You know all of us remember where we were on 9/11, but I am not sure if we all remember where we were on 9/10.

Glenn played a very touching audio compilation of radio programs, aircraft tower transmissions and other coverage from the day. Spooky and touching. Please take a moment to listen to the piece, it is available here from Glenn’s site.

Honestly? It brought tears to my eyes as I made my way up Highway 101 this afternoon. I can’t remember where I was on 9/10, I do remember the morning of 9/11 and feeling like I got kicked in the stomach. I think a lot of us felt that way.

My heart and my prayers goes out to the souls that were lost on 9/11 as we pass another anniversary of this fateful day.

    Peace

  • Welcome to Saskatchewan. Thank you for visiting our beautiful province. Here are a few things you ought to know to make your stay more pleasant:

    1. That slope-shouldered farm boy you are snickering at did more work before breakfast than you will do all week at the gym.

    2. It’s called a “gravel road.” No matter how slow you drive, you’re going to get dust on your BMW. I have a 4-wheel drive because I need it. Now drive or get it out of the way.

    3. We all started hunting and fishing when we were nine-years-old. Yeah, we saw Bambi die. We got over it.

    4. Any references to “grain fed” when talking about our women will get your butt kicked … by our women.

    5. Pull your pants up, and turn your hat around. You look like an idiot.

    6. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of mallards are making their final approach, we will shoot it. You might hope you don’t have it up to your ear at the time.

    7. No, there’s no “Vegetarian Special” on the menu. Order steak. Order it rare. Or, you can order the Chef’s Salad and pick off the two pounds of ham and turkey.

    8. Yeah, we have sweet tea. It comes unsweetened in a glass with two packets of sugar and a long spoon.

    9. You bring Coke into my house you better bring rye along, and some ice.

    10. So you have a sixty-thousand-dollar car. We’re real impressed. We have quarter-million-dollar combines that we use two weeks a year.

    11. Let’s get this straight. We may have one stoplight in town, but we stop when it’s red. We may even stop when it’s yellow.

    12. Our women hunt, fish, and drive trucks – because they want to. So, you re a feminist. Isn’t that cute.

    13. Yeah, we eat trout, Northern pike, walleye, and perch, too. If you really want sushi and caviar, it’s available at the bait shop.

    14. They are pigs and cows. That’s what they smell like. Get over it. Don’t like it? Highways #1 and #16 go two ways – get on one of them.

    15. The “Opener” refers to the first days of fishing and deer season. They are religious holidays. You can get breakfast at the church.

    16. So what if every person in every pick-up waves? It’s called being friendly. Understand the concept?

    17. Yeah, we have golf courses. Don’t hit into the water hazards. It spooks the fish. And stay out of the woods. It’ll spook the deer.

    Please enjoy your stay. Eh.
