Shanghai, I often went for work and still have a team there today. It is one of the most amazing cities in the world.

I was always treated incredibly well when I would visit. It was a fun city to get out and walk. With jetlag I’d always be out walking at some incredibly odd hour and always felt incredibly safe.

As we built docs.microsoft.com I got to know many of the folks on my team there quite well. Turns out the folks I got to know well were just like us. Moms, dads, students… Just like us trying to survive the human condition, raise their kids and create a better life for themselves.

I took Mandarin classes for awhile and was given a Chinese name by the leader of my team there. 😊

尚建伟 (esteem, value and set great + build greatness and success, respectively)

It’s odd to go from literally going around the world once or twice a year to being largely grounded for the last 180 days.

Five years ago this was my first visit to the city.

I miss seeing my friends and teammates there. Hope you all are well. 😐
