Continued from before….
Ok, we took a brief interlude. Josie couldn’t wait to use it so we seasoned the chalkboard after the final coat of paint had dried. To season we took a piece of chalk and slid it end to end on the wall using the side of the chalk. We completely covered the wall in chalk. Once that was done we took a damp piece of cloth and wiped all the chalk off. If you do this, it makes it a lot easier to erase the board in the future.
Josie tested the board out by drawing some pictures and it worked great. The magnetic paint we used allows her to put up pictures she’s drawn at school. So with our early test run complete, it is now time to move to the next step, taping off the border.
We’re going for an effect similar to some of the funky furniture you’ll find at Fireworks (sorry can’t find any examples online of the furniture there, but if you’ve been at the store you’ll know what I am talking about). Basically it will be a wide border of alternating colours complete with thick object lines. A bit of a cartoon effect and hopefully something that adds a bit of “funk” to our new home.

I took a level and went around the outside of edge of the chalkboard covering it in tape and finally another line of tape outside of that. The area in between the blue masking tape is where we’ll “fill in” the border.
Let’s see how it works.
