Microsoft Acquires Safeco Buildings

Driving into work in the mornings I drive past the Safeco buildings on 148th and I’ve often thought to myself that the architecture of them looked a lot like many of the new buildings on Campus.

Now from Todd’s blog I read that Microsoft has purchased the buildings as part of a growing expansion plan for the campus.

Todd writes:

Some Microsoft employees appear to be in line for new digs. Safeco Corp., the Seattle-based insurance company, disclosed in an SEC filing this morning that it’s selling most of its Redmond campus to its neighbor there, Microsoft, for nearly $210 million. The deal is another sign that Microsoft is continuing to expand, even though its growth rate is still much lower than at the height of the economic boom.

For more details, see this story. The campus contains six main buildings and more than 750,000 square feet of office space, plus warehouse space and parking garages.

So it makes me wonder if Safeco had an exit strategy for the buildings by designing them to be a similar style as the newer buildings on the Microsoft Campus just down the road? Doubtful, but you never know.

Our company continues to grow and does my team. Hard to believe the company has doubled in size since I joined almost 9 years ago.

Speaking of growing, I have more openings on my team in case you are interested. My team creates Online Communities such as Channel 9, Gadgets and some other things we’re not quite ready to talk about. The Developer position is for someone who loves ASP.NET, has a flair for design and wants to build Web 2.0 and ship, ship, ship! The program manager of course will help pull all of our projects together and keep us operating as a well oiled machine. Come work along side Robert, Adam, Duncan, Charles, Erik and myself. If you love shaping and shipping world class online communities then send me a note. (jeffsand at microsoft dot com subject line Channel 9 Jobs)
