Origami as a Flickr Picture Frame

Wow. This is cool Arin and Lora were kind enough to loan me a Samsung Origami (still can’t get used to saying Ultra Mobile PC) for some focus groups I’m involved with in San Francisco this coming week.

I’ll be honest I really wondered how useful a device like this would be. You see I always have a laptop open in my kitchen or in our family room. I’m an email/blog addict, just part of the lifestyle I guess. It drives my wife nuts, my obsession in always having a PC around just to skim through blogs and mail to see what’s going on..

The Origami is small. It takes up little space on an end table and even better by installing the Flickr screensaver and propping it up on its built-in stand when the device is not in use it displays recent additions to our family photo pool on Flickr. Its much more than just a digital picture frame, its a full functioning PC! So when I want to check mail, I can just pick the device up and use Outlook. No laptop taking up space on the kitchen counter or on our coffee table. If you are going to do this, you do need to change your power management features so that the monitor is not turned off after 10 minutes of inactivity when plugged in. Otherwise you won’t have more than 10 minutes of photos.

I am still getting used to the touch screen for input, but the device is really growing on me. Let’s see if gets past seven days.
